There are many types of bedding available to use for your pet guinea pig, some of these are:

Good Beddings

  • Fleece/towels
Fleece should have newspaper, puppy pads, towels etc underneath it to absorb the urine. You can decide which one you think is best!
  • Aspen
  • Kiln Dried Pine
  • Vetbed
Vetbed is extremely expensive and I've had no personal experience with it. It too should be lined with something absorbent.
  • Carefresh
Carefresh is probably the best bedding available on the market. It comes in 50L and 10L bags. It can however be expensive.
  • Megazorb
I've had no personal experience with megazorb but it is cheap and very similar to carefresh.
  • BeautiCat Cat Litter
BeautiCat Cat litter is a pelleted form of woodshavings. It is highly absorbent and easy to clean. However it is very hard on the feet and turns to sawdust when wet. It is only useful in the litter box/hay box.

Unsuitable beddings are:

  • Newspaper- Has to be cleaned out atleast twice a day to prevent smell
  • Sawdust- The dust can cause respiratory problems
  • Hay/Straw- becomes very soggy and the straw can cause eye injuries

Unsafe beddings:

  • Pine/Cedar- They give off poisonous toxins that can cause respiratory problems.
  • Cat litter- Clumping cat litter can cause blockaging if eaten.
